Stay in the kitchen while you are cooking. If you must leave for a short period of time, turn off your stove.
Keep anything that can catch fire away from the stovetop; i.e., oven mitts, food packaging, towels, wooden spoons,
Have a kid-free zone of at least 3 feet around the stove and other cooking areas.
Keep a fire extinguisher in your kitchen.
